Buchanan & Edwards Develops Solution for Emergency Management
Buchanan & Edwards (BE) has developed a new solution for emergency management, EM1. EM1 is a comprehensive emergency management system that integrates with companies’ existing IT infrastructures to deliver unified mass notifications on a local, regional or international level. This solution equips organizations with an encompassing solution to ensure emergency preparedness and safety of all company personnel, infrastructure and facilities.
Last summer’s earthquake and recent storms illustrate the need for improved Emergency Management systems. In the event of an emergency, communication is crucial to ensure the best possible outcome. Buchanan & Edwards’ CTO Greg Parchment is talking to universities, government agencies and global non-profits about adopting its new integrated emergency alert system that utilizes phone, e-mail, and text messages to get word of danger out quickly.
BE’s EM1 system resolves many of the challenges of existing, paper-based emergency management systems and addresses the shortcomings of packaged solutions. “EM1 is ideal for global enterprises and organizations with distributed work forces,” explained Greg Parchment, CTO of Buchanan & Edwards. “We believe many of our federal clients, and even schools, can benefit from the system.”
With technical contributions from the Virginia Tech Applied Research Corporation and companies specializing in GIS, Voice and Data Visualization, BE was able to develop a system that features a command center with Google Earth GIS layers, a mobile application allowing employees to update their safety status during incidents, and real-time and after-action reporting that provide organizations with knowledge that will enhance future response process improvements. EM1 was created with global business processes and technologies in mind, providing compatibility with all mobile devices and platforms. EM1 gives organizations a complete set of tools to effectively respond to and resolve incidents that pose a threat to continuity of operations.
Developments like EM1 have helped BE gain recognition from organizations like Nintex and UBM Channel for its forward-thinking work. It is an example of one of the many innovative technologies BE is developing to keep up with the evolving government technology industry.
